AthaCouncillor Bernard Atha is retiring from Leeds City Council this May, after over 50 years as a Councillor and to mark the event Adel and Wharfedale Branch of the Labour Party are holding a dinner in his honour.

A long term resident of Cookridge, Bernard Atha was first elected to Leeds City Council in 1957, and is retiring as a councillor in May 2014. He has been a councillor for Kirkstall ward since 1970, and was elected Lord Mayor 2000-2001. The CBE recognises his work with numerous arts organisations and charities helping disabled people. In addition to his distinguished political career, and being a qualified lawyer and teacher, Bernard has also appeared in numerous films and television productions.

The dinner will be held at

Caring for Life Granary Restaurant,

Crag Hill House Farm, Cookridge LS16 7NH

Friday March 14th, 7.30pm for 8.00pm

Tickets are £20 per person for 3 courses

Bernard, a most entertaining speaker, has agreed to say a few words, and John Battle, former MP for West Leeds, and Labour Minister, another very good public speaker, has also agreed to say a few words. Long dull speeches will certainly not be the order of the evening!

Caring for Life is a Christian Charity helping vulnerable and disadvantaged people. Crag Hill House farm includes enterprises supporting the charity such as a restaurant, cafe, farm shop and plant nurseries. www.caringforlife.co.uk for more information.

The one drawback of the venue is that it is not accessible by public transport on a March night. Please don’t let that be a bar to you coming; please explain this when you apply for tickets and we will do our best to arrange transport. However, once there, it is one of the most accessible venues in the area.
