Local News: Developers Appeal 70 Home Pool-in-Wharfedale Scheme

Earlier this year the Labour led Leeds City Council denied planning permission for a 70 home Taylor Wimpey development in Pool & Wharfedale. The council cited 4 different grounds including road safety and the site’s Protected Area of Land status, among others.

It has come to light that Taylor Wimpey are continuing to appeal the decision which could now lead to public enquiry.

The National Planning Policy Framework, adopted by the Tory / Lib Dem coalition government in 2012, is the real problem here. Leeds City Council has rejected many schemes in the past only for the developers to take them to appeal – a process that costs the council a lot of money – only for the decision to be ultimately handed to Westminster where it is, pretty much, always approved.
