Nigel was born and bred in Otley. He attended Prince Henry’s Grammar School, Thomas Danby College, Newcastle College and the University of Bradford, where he gained a BA (Hons) in Peace Studies, Politics and Society. He has held numerous jobs including Shift Manager at Leeds Bradford Airport and currently a Credit Controller for Medina Dairies.
Nigel brings a wealth of experience – of campaigning and of working as a representative of local people. He has been an Otley Town Councillor for 2 terms and was Town Mayor between 2014 – 15. He is Press and Publicity officer for Otley Carnival. During his mayoral year he raised nearly £1,000 each for his charities – Behind Closed Doors (a domestic violence charity), Otley Food Bank and Otley Action for Older People (an organisation which aids older people living independently). He is a director of Otley Action for Older People – which covers not only Otley, but Pool and Arthington too.
Nigel says: ”I know the Adel and Wharfedale ward very well. I have stood as a Labour candidate here in the past and had the chance to meet many local people then.
If elected, I would be a pro-active councillor and easily contactable. I would not take the electorate for granted as some Tory councillors do. We now have a Labour MP, Alex Sobel, in Leeds North West. I will work with him as a team to tackle the issues people bring me.
Adel & Wharfedale deserves better, locally and nationally. By voting Labour you can not only ensure a Labour council here in Leeds, but also send a message to Theresa May – we’ve had enough of austerity.”
